When filling out my “career history”, I wanted to log an “extended absence”. There were a range of options including maternity leave, but not paternity leave/parental leave.
I'm currently on 3 month gap between roles using shared parental leave. It would have felt more satisfying to be able to note this rather than “extended absence - other”. I feel such an amendment would help to normalise men taking time off to care for their children just as women do, which hopefully everyone will benefit from in the long run.
