Why can't I map a case-log to the curriculum?

The case log function on Portfolio Online is intended as an online version of a log book. It allows you to keep notes for the cases you see, demonstrating you have seen a good mix of patients and complexities. However, this can only demonstrate quantity.

 

Curriculum mapping is focused on the quality of evidence which requires demonstration of knowledge, skills or attitudes. None of which are achieved by logging cases alone. Cases should be used as the starting point for a Case-Based Discussion, reflective practice, validated supervision notes or other formative experiences on which feedback has been received.

When requesting an assessement, if it's a clinical one, trainees will be given the option of linking the assessment to a clinical experience. If trainees wish to link a clinical experience to some reflective notes, supervision notes or some other activity, they can do so using the follow-up feature.

 

Trainees can add a case log to their portfolio by adding an activity.
